In November 2008 Dell introduced the 1230c Color Laser Printer in the US, followed in March 2009 by the MFP version, the 1235cn Multifunction Color Laser Printer. Both are host-based, have a monthly duty cycle rating of 20,000 pages and print speeds of 4 pages per minute (ppm) for color and 17 ppm for black. The 1235 MFP has the added functions of scanning, copying and Faxing.
The Dell 1230 printer is basically a re-branded version of the Samsung® CLP-315, and the 1235 MFP is the Dell version of the Samsung CLX-3175 MFP. The supplies sets are identical, with cartridges being interchangeable between brands when equipped with the proper replacement chip.
The supplies set is made up of a 1,500 page yield black toner cartridge, 1,000 page yield color cartridges (Cyan, Magenta and Yellow) and a separate drum unit yielding 24,000 black pages and 6,000 color pages. A waste toner unit is also needed, holding up to 10,000 black pages and 2,500 pages of color waste toner and paper fibers. Printers ship with 1,000 page yield black and 700 page yield color starter cartridges.
